A-Z: SUBMISSION GUIDELINES for moonShine review

BEFORE SUBMITTING, PLEASE DO TWO THINGS:
(1) Read instructions below entirely and follow step by step.
(2) Read “About moonShine review” on this website
(found under “Pages” on left-hand side of screen).

Our goal is to provide a venue for unique voices, and we are interested in work that conveys honest and individual perspectives. We consider work from anywhere but give preference to artists from the Southeast. To know more, read “About moonShine review” on this website before submitting. We also encourage you to order and read a past issue.

We work on one issue at a time, and read submissions ONLY after the deadlines in the Spring and Fall:
March 15th and September 15th. (Submissions are accepted year-round but only read following deadlines.)

As of January 1, 2016, we accept ONLY EMAIL SUBMISSIONS and will consider only those submissions that meet the criteria stated below.

PROSE GUIDELINES

A.  We accept original, previously unpublished works of creative PROSE—short fiction, flash fiction, creative non-fiction.

B.  We never have a set theme, but “darkness of the human spirit” is our guiding force.

C.  We do NOT publish plays.

D.  We do NOT publish poetry.

E.  We accept simultaneous submissions. Tell us in your email and notify us AS SOON AS piece is accepted elsewhere.

F.  Submit up to three (3) pieces at one time of 3,000 words or less.

G.  Submissions exceeding 3,000 words will not be considered; 2,500 or less preferred, no minimum.

H.  We accept ONLY email submissions.

I.  Email submissions to ANNE KAYLOR, publisher, at moonshine@carolina.rr.com.

J.  Acceptances are notified by email only.

K.  Payment is ONE complimentary copy of the issue and a substantial discount on additional copies, if pre-ordered.

L.  Required Content in Your Email—

1.  Full name as you want it to appear in our publication
2.  Phone number
3.  Email address
4.  USPS mailing address—If accepted, needed to mail your copy
5.  Titles of submissions—Exactly as you want them to appear in our publication.

M.  Formatting Your Document:

1.  Do NOT put your name on the piece or anywhere in the file.
2.  Separate multiple pieces into separate files and name each file to match titles in your email.
3.  Be sure titles within files match titles in your email. Include title on every page of document.
4.  Use Times New Roman, 12 point.
5.  Double space and indent every paragraph.
6.  Do NOT include spacing between paragraphs.
7.  Do NOT return at the end of every line.
8.  Use one-inch margins on all edges.
9.  Number pages in the document.

Please understand we judge anonymously, so it is necessary you follow the guidelines above to give us the best opportunity to do so. That means NOT including your name on your piece(s) in the file and conforming to these basic formatting standards.

Because we consider the line between flash fiction and prose poetry to be blurry, we will consider prose poetry IF AND ONLY IF it meets all of the formatting standards listed above.

AFTER you have read these guidelines, if you have additional questions, please email Anne Kaylor at moonshine@carolina.rr.com.
